The Organist Entertains
James has chosen an imaginative and varied programme to illustrate the versatility of our Walker organ which includes four chorale preludes by Bach, and works by Byrd, Handel, Mozart, Vierne, Sweelinck, Franck and Mendelssohn.
James O’Donnell is one of the country’s leading organists, as well as the conductor of the world-famous Westminster Abbey Choir. In this concert of organ music across the ages, O’Donnell introduces and showcases the fabulous Walker organ in St Dunstan’s in celebration of its 20th birthday. A camera mounted in the organ console projects a live relay of the organist on to the big screen in front of the audience. Masterpieces of the Baroque by Bach and Handel rub shoulders with music by the Parisian organist César Franck in this guided tour of the king of instruments.
