War and Peace
Oxford Camerata with The Mayfield Consort – Jeremy Summerly, Director
Parry Never Weather-beaten Sail, Samuel Barber Agnus Dei, John Tavener The Lamb, Paul Mealor Ubi caritas, Dufay Supremum est mortalibus, Josquin Missa sexti toni, Janequin La guerre
A programme of warlike and peaceful music from the Renaissance and the 20th century to mark the centenary of the ending of the First World War. For the two most substantial works in the programme, Oxford Camerata is joined by the Mayfield Consort – Janequin’s colourfully onomatopoeic battle madrigal (made famous in modern times by the King’s Singers) and Samuel Barber’s Agnus Dei, the composer’s own choral arrangement of his Adagio for Strings (made famous in modern times by Classic FM!).
