From its inception over thirty five years ago, the Festival has enjoyed close links with the Royal College of Music, London, one of the world’s leading conservatoires providing specialised musical education at the highest international level for performers and composers. This evening’s ‘Serenade by Candlelight’ concert continues the tradition with a performance by the College’s Junior Department Chamber Orchestra under the baton of the distinguished conductor Richard Dickins. The orchestra, whose members are between the ages of 16 and 18, have been selected by invitation and represent some of the finest talent in the RCM Junior Department. In recent years they have toured France, Germany, Austria and Hungary.
They are joined tonight by the international soloists Mark Wilde and Richard Watkins for an enchanting programme to include Benjamin Britten’s atmospheric Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings.
I was enormously impressed by the Junior Department Chamber Orchestra….. I found the sheer beauty of sound particularly striking
